Robotic Fertility Surgery

Robotic fertility surgery utilizes the latest technology to provide better outcomes

At Texas Fertility Center, Susan Hudson MD always strives to treat patients using the least invasive and most effective fertility treatments. However, minimally invasive surgery is sometimes necessary to help patients overcome the complex causes of infertility. Dr. Hudson is an experienced New Braunfels fertility surgeon who has received training in robotic fertility surgery using the da Vinci® Surgical System.

While robotic surgery isn’t right for every patient, it can be a highly effective treatment option for women with adhesions (scar tissue), endometriosis and fibroids. Some surgeons also use this procedure to perform tubal reconstruction when a woman wants to conceive after having her tubes tied.

Dr. Hudson has received training in robotic fertility surgery

Robotic surgery is a type of laparoscopy, which means our New Braunfels fertility surgeon typically performs it on an outpatient basis. To begin this minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Hudson will make a tiny incision near the belly button. She will then place a small, lighted camera and surgical instruments in the incision.

When performing robotic fertility surgery, robotic arms hold the surgical instruments in place. However, this doesn’t mean that a robot is performing the surgical procedure. Instead, Dr. Hudson uses the robotic arms as surgical tools. To perform the procedure, she controls the arms and the surgical instruments from a nearby console.

This form of minimally invasive surgery offers many benefits to patients

Dr. Hudson became trained in robotic fertility surgery because it allows her to operate with greater control and precision. The result is excellent clinical outcomes for patients with fertility issues ranging from endometriosis to fibroids. Additionally, robotic surgery only requires a tiny incision. As a result, patients experience less pain, fewer risks, less scarring and a faster recovery.

However, as mentioned above, this type of minimally invasive surgery isn’t right for every patient. Before recommending this surgical option, our New Braunfels fertility surgeon will review a patient’s medical history and diagnosis. From there, she will determine the best course of action as she develops the patient’s customized treatment plan.
