New Patient Appointment

A new patient appointment can help you start on the path to parenthood

If you’ve been struggling to conceive after trying for one year (or six months if you’re 35 or over), now is the time to schedule a new patient appointment. For your convenience, our New Braunfels fertility clinic offers both in-person and virtual fertility appointments to help you get started on the path to parenthood.

During your first fertility appointment at Texas Fertility Center New Braunfels, Susan Hudson MD will collect some background information from you. She’ll then explain the fertility testing process and review your potential treatment options.

What happens at a new patient appointment?

You can expect your new patient appointment at our New Braunfels fertility clinic to last 30 to 45 minutes. After introducing herself, Dr. Hudson will ask about your medical history as well as the medical history of your partner. Here is a list of some topics you’ll discuss during your first visit.

  • Your menstrual cycle
  • Previous surgeries, illnesses or infections
  • Current health conditions and medications
  • Past pregnancies and/or fertility testing and treatment results
  • Any occupational hazards like exposure to radiation or chemicals
  • Smoking, alcohol and caffeine consumption, and recreational drug use

These details are important, because each one can play a role in your fertility struggles. For example, irregular menstrual cycles can suggest problems with ovulation, while being exposed to certain chemicals at work can harm both male and female fertility.

A physical exam and ordering tests also occur during an in-person fertility visit

After Dr. Hudson takes a medical and personal history during an in-person appointment, she’ll perform a physical exam on the female partner. Her goal is to assess your general health and look for specific issues that could reveal the causes of infertility.

  • Thyroid disease
  • Uterine enlargement
  • Abdominal or pelvic tenderness

She’ll also perform a transvaginal ultrasound to assess the ovaries, uterus and surrounding organs during your new patient appointment. Other tests that Dr. Hudson will likely order include fertility bloodwork, a hysterosalpingogram (HSG), genetic carrier screening and a semen analysis for the male partner. Each of these diagnostic tools provides valuable information about your reproductive health and fertility.

You have the option to schedule a virtual fertility appointment

Our New Braunfels fertility clinic wants to make it convenient to get the care you need. As a result, we offer virtual fertility appointments. This is a great option if you have a busy schedule, want to avoid traffic or live in a different city or state.

It’s easy to make a virtual fertility appointment. After completing the form below, our new patient coordinator will schedule your appointment and send you an instructional welcome email. To make the most of your time with Dr. Hudson, please complete the paperwork in this email before your appointment.

Once you schedule your appointment, a TFC team member will verify your insurance benefits and telemedicine coverage. They will then call you to discuss your benefits and the estimated cost of treatment.

When it’s time for your virtual appointment, you can count on receiving the same care and information that you would if you came to our New Braunfels fertility clinic in person. Dr. Hudson will ask the same questions about your medical and fertility history. She’ll also review the diagnostic tests you’ll need to undergo, and which fertility treatments may be helpful for you. After talking to Dr. Hudson, you’ll virtually meet with a nurse and a billing specialist.
