Unexplained Infertility

Help for unexplained infertility at Texas Fertility Center New Braunfels

Unexplained infertility is the term given when a couple has not become pregnant within a year of having regular unprotected intercourse, or after six months if the female is older than 35 years of age, and they have had infertility diagnostic evaluations that came back normal.

Treatments are available to assist in achieving pregnancy. About 15 percent to 30 percent of couples tested have undiagnosed infertility.

What happens if pregnancy doesn’t happen within a year?

The first step is to have an infertility diagnostic evaluation. That typically includes a semen analysis, ovulation assessment, transvaginal ultrasound and HSG. If these tests come back normal, the diagnosis is unexplained infertility. Thorough testing is necessary to diagnose this condition.

Treatment for unexplained infertility

There are several ways to treat infertility that has no identifiable cause. The first is to make certain lifestyle changes if necessary, such as to stop smoking, achieve a normal body mass index and cut back on caffeine and alcohol.

Other treatments can include laparoscopy or intrauterine insemination; fertility medications letrozole and/or gonadotropin; in vitro fertilization; or intracytoplasmic sperm injection. Genetic testing may also be considered to determine if there is a genetic reason for infertility.

At Texas Fertility Center New Braunfels, we specialize in treatments for couples who experience unexplained infertility. Contact us today to schedule your personal consultation with Dr. Susan Hudson.
